I don't see my compatible Dante™ device in the Dante Controller software.

  • Check that the network cable is connected and that the activity indicators are flashing (fairly quickly).
  • Check that the correct network interfaces are selected. The selected network interfaces can be changed via the "interface selection" button on the main Dante Controller toolbar.
  • Verify that your network interfaces have the correct IP addresses (set to automatically acquire the IP address).
  • If there are two different wired network interfaces on your computer, make sure they are in different subnets or disable the unused network interface.
  • Make sure that no anti-virus software is installed (Dante™ uses "unusual" port addresses, as "usual" port addresses are already used by other common applications).
  • Verify that you do not have an active firewall - refer to the Dante™ Controller user guide for information on how to securely configure a firewall for use on a deployed network.

Does the Dante Controller software need to be present at all times for the Dante™ network to work?

No, it does not. Once the system is configured, the Dante Controller software can be stopped or removed. Routing information is stored in the Dante™ compatible devices themselves.

Does Dante™ work with a fibre optic network cable?

Yes, it does. Because Dante™ uses technology based on network standards, the use of optic fibre cable is possible. Use a switch that supports fibre-optic connections to send Dante™ data over a optic fibrecable.

Ethernet is not based on copper or fibre, it is independent of the cabling media. Many installations will already have a fibre optic cable in place; it can simply be reused for a Dante™ network.

What type of Ethernet cable is recommended for Dante™?

The use of Ethernet, CAT5E or CAT6 cables is recommended. For pure 100 Mbps networks, CAT5 cables can be used.

I cannot validate the connection between a transmitter and a receiver.

The two most likely causes are:

  • A difference in sampling parameter between the two Dante™ devices. This is because the audio signals must be set up in the same way on the transmit and receive sides. For example, it is not possible to establish a connection between a transmitter parameterized at 96 kHz and a receiver parameterized at 48 kHz.
  • If the number of unicast audio streams of the transmitter has been reached, a multicast stream must be created in order to be able to send the desired channel to as many receivers as necessary.

When does it make sense to use multicast instead of unicast?

When a particular audio channel or group of audio channels is sent to multiple receivers (typically three or more), it is more efficient to use the available network bandwidth to send a single multicast packet to many receivers rather than sending individual identical packets to each receiver.

My FRENETIK device does not turn on.

Please check the following points before concluding that the product is faulty:

  • Is the port on my switch to which the FRENETIK product is connected PoE? If yes, is PoE enabled (dip-switch or other)?
  • Is my network cable integrated? If possible, test it or do a test with another cable (which ideally works well on another line) / or test the cable.
  • Is my cable too long? Indeed, even if in theory the length of an Ethernet copper cable should reach 100 meters, in practice it is better to count on 80 meters or even 70 meters. This depends on the cable parameters (conductor cross-section, etc.) but also on the constraints applied to it (bending radius, etc.).

My FRENETIK device is faulty.
